SUNWORKS Installs Solar at Progress Energy Headquarters on Friday

Jacksonville, FL (September 5, 2006) Progress Energy, the second largest power company in Florida, has selected Jacksonville-based SUNWORKS to install a $60,000 solar hot water system in the company’s new Florida headquarters building in downtown St. Petersburg on Friday, Sept. 8.

"We’ll be using pre-assembled components that will be crane-lifted on the roof of the building, a specially-designed skid-mounted package that is relatively easy to install," said SUNWORKS president David H. Smith, president of SUNWORKS. "In addition to the project itself, we are excited that one of our state’s biggest power providers is making a commitment to a renewable energy source, the sun, at its own headquarters."

SUNWORKS will install 10 solar panels on the rooftop of the building, which will provide hot water for the nine-story building and the roughly 500 employees who will begin working in the building this November.

The Progress Energy Florida headquarters building, the first new downtown St. Petersburg office complex in more than 15 years, is owned by a subsidiary of SunTrust Bank and will be occupied by Progress Energy under a 40-year lease.

"Our employees are constantly working to find cleaner and more efficient ways to produce energy for our 1.6 million customers," said Jeff Lyash, president and CEO of Progress Energy Florida. "We are proud to include emerging technologies, like solar, in the design of our new Florida headquarters. What a better place to demonstrate clean and efficient energy applications?"

The Progress Energy office complex is being developed by Carter & Associates of Atlanta, and was designed by Cooper Carry of Atlanta (base building architect) and St. Petersburg's Wannemacher Russell (interior architect). Brasfield & Gorrie is the general contractor.

In the solar energy business since 1973, SunWorks Solar Systems, Inc. is the largest solar energy distributor and installation company in northeast Florida and is a member of the Florida Solar Energy Industries Association. The company provides consulting, installation and service for solar water, pool heating, solar electric (photovoltaic) systems, skylights, and wind-power systems.
