SUNWORKS donates Solar Installation Cost to Jax Women’s Center

Jacksonville, FL (July 20, 2006) Jacksonville Solar Energy Retailer SUNWORKS is donating its manpower today to help the Jacksonville Women’s Center maintain its solar power this summer.

"When the center installed a solar system in 2004, the staff there knew the center roof would soon need to be replaced, but they didn’t have the money to do the work then," said David H. Smith, president of SUNWORKS. "To allow the center to take advantage of incentives available through JEA at the time, we made the commitment to donate our time to remove and replace the solar panels when the roof replacement began."

SUNWORKS removed the solar panels last week and, starting at 11 a.m. this morning, will be in the process of reinstalling the solar electric (photovoltaic) system, which provides electricity to the 7,800-square-foot building and saves the non-profit agency about $8,000 a year on its electric bills. The center is located at 5644 Colcord Ave. near the intersection of the Arlington Expressway and University Boulevard.

Smith estimates SUNWORKs in-kind donation for the work is about $5,000.

The Women's Center, which started in 1995, moved to its current location just off University Boulevard adjacent to the Clifton neighborhood of Arlington in 2002. The center, created to help women overcome social, economic, and personal barriers, touches the lives of nearly 10,000 women and girls every year.
