News Release
Cancer Survivors Model Spring Fashions at "Cure By Design" in March Jacksonville, FL (February 8, 2006) – The American Cancer Society’s annual Cure By Design Fashion Show will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, March 30 at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena. The gala leadership team, which includes Kim Garcia, Linda Goldstein and Eileen Feldpausch, began holding committee meetings and planning for the event earlier this month. "Last year, we held the event at the Sawgrass Marriott at the beaches, but a downtown location – especially at the arena – will provide our sponsors and guests with better seating and a better layout for the runway," Garcia said. "Cure by Design offers a great way for people to join the fight against cancer and enjoy seeing a full line of spring fashions on the runway." The show features about 40 male and female models and the majority of them cancer survivors. More than 600 people attended last year’s event, which raised more than $63,000 for the non-profit agency. Cure by Design begins with a reception which includes a silent auction and chance drawings for cosmetic gift baskets and other fashion-related items, at noon a seated luncheon is served followed by the fashion show. Funds raised at the event are used to support cancer research, advocacy, education, and patient services provided by the American Cancer Society in Duval County. About 5,500 local residents are diagnosed with cancer each year. The event is presented by Memorial Hospital Jacksonville and sponsored by Belk Department Stores. Limited tickets are still available for $60 and VIP Tables can be purchased for $1,000. For more information, contact the American Cancer Society at 904-398-0537.
